Improved Access

For many patients, finding the time to see a GP can be tricky. Traditional GP surgery opening hours may not fit with your other responsibilities at home or at work. At its worst, this could mean that you may be tempted to ignore a potentially serious health issue and hope it goes away.

Taurus Healthcare’s Improved Access Service addresses this issue by offering evening and weekend appointments at six hubs across Herefordshire when GP surgeries are closed:

How do I access the Improved Access Service?

Please note that the Improved Access Service is not a walk-in service. You must book an appointment to see a GP at one of our hubs.

To access the service, you must be registered with a Herefordshire GP Practice. To book an appointment at any of the hubs, simply call your registered GP practice during their normal opening hours and request a ‘Taurus extended hours appointment’. If your practice is closed call NHS111.

Who will I see?

Taurus’ Improved Access Service is run by a rota of GPs, drawn from Herefordshire practices.

Will the GPs be able to see my records?

Yes, when you see a GP at one of the hubs, they will be able to access your patient records. This is because we have a data sharing agreement with all practices which enables our Improved Access team to access your records. This is important so that they can gain an understanding of your medical history and any pre-existing conditions.

What people say about the service

“I work full-time – 44 miles away – so I’m unable to visit my GP during surgery hours unless I take a day off. This availability during Saturdays is fantastic!”

“I’m self-employed so this service to me is convenient to say the least. First class!”

“Quick and efficient service. It’s a great idea to have a weekend clinic and there are really helpful and friendly staff running it. Thanks.”

“I work away from home all work and find it difficult to see my own GP in the week. To have access to a GP on a Saturday is very important for me.”
