About us

Taurus Healthcare was established in 2012 as a federation of all 20 Herefordshire GP Practices. Its creation reflected a nationwide trend for general practices to work together to deliver better and more resilient services for patients.

The key principle for federative working in general practice is to wrap support around practices, providing the glue between them and filling any gaps. Our objective is not to replace practices, but to support them and offer services that they wouldn’t individually be able to access.

Our shareholders are all 20 Herefordshire GP practices. We are a limited company, but operate as if we are a Community Interest Company. Any surpluses we make are reinvested into providing improved healthcare services for the people of Herefordshire now and in the future.

Taurus Healthcare's Aims

Our aims are:

  • To support practices to be safe, effective, efficient and resilient
The support provided will vary dependent on the needs of each surgery, but typically includes back office services such as Recruitment, Finance and Human Resources.

  • To deliver services on behalf of GP practices, that improve provision across the county
For example, Taurus operates the county’s 7 Day GP Service and GP Out of Hours Service as well as a new social prescribing service

  • To provide strategic leadership for Herefordshire’s GP Practices
For example, by representing Herefordshire GPs at a range of important meetings and consultations, Taurus ensures that their collective voice is heard.
